Rishabh Pant will lead the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season. With former DC captain Shreyas Iyer out of the tournament with a shoulder injury, Pant will now be the skipper of the team. Pant’s appointment was sealed in a meeting between the franchise co-owner and head coach Ricky Ponting

Pant made his IPL debut back in 2016 when the Delhi franchise bagged him for 1.9 Cr. In IPL 2020, Pant had quite the silent outing with the bat. Playing 14 innings, Pant scored just 342 runs with a strike rate of 114. In IPL 2021, Pant will want to prove his critics wrong by displaying a similar form to that of the recent international outings. Pant was outstanding against England in the recent Test, ODI, and T20 series.

It has been my dream to captain Delhi Capitals - Rishabh Pant

Becoming the captain of the Delhi Capitals was a dream come true for the 23-year-old cricketer. With Iyer’s injury, Pant’s dream was fulfilled earlier than expected. Ponting feels that this will add pressure to the cricketer.

With the guidance of R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane, Ponting feels that Pant will live up to the expectations. Pant becomes the 5th youngest captain in IPL history.

Shreyas Iyer was happy to see Pant appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals. Iyer stated that Pant will surely make the most of this opportunity.
